Freezer Cooking Part 2 – The Essentials

I had hoped to have some recipes up here by now, but in the meantime I thought I would pass on some tips that I’ve learned about Freezer Cooking in the last couple of month.  So, here we go!

The Essentials – Containers & Stuff

It takes a bit of work to get all the food you need to make these special dishes, but then there are the items that everyone forgets about when it comes time to store things away.  Here are a couple of items that will make your life easier!

1.)  Always have 1 gallon and 1 quart sized freezer bags around.  These work great for freezing SO many things and they are convenient to work with.  I like to use the gallon bags for things like roasts or stews and the quart sized bags for things like sauces.  I also use them to store any left over veggies that need to be kept in the fridge.  Separating your peppers, onions, and other veggies help them stay fresh longer.

2.)  One of the things you find yourself doing a LOT when you freezer cook, is use the crock pot!  I love my crock pot, but I get very tired of cleaning it all the time.  Slow cooker liners are plastic bags that fit inside your crock pot (much the way a garbage bag hangs onto the edges of the basket).  They don’t melt (they can with-stand temperatures of up to 400° F without melting). When done, simply remove the bag and any left overs, discard as necessary and wipe down the counters.  Done!

More to come soon…  I can’t keep my eyes open anymore.  🙂
